NP (SL) Limited’s staff have benefited from a Breast Cancer awareness talk from the Well Woman Clinic (MEPS Trust) at the Company’s headquarters.

The purpose of the health talk is to raise awareness about the disease among staff, as Breast Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death for women globally.
The session was facilitated by the Head Sister of the Well Woman Clinic, Madam Adijatu Salam, who led discussions on the predisposing factors, causes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic procedures, treatment options, and examination methods related to breast cancer.

According to Madam Salam, Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells, and Breast Cancer is Cancer of the breast. She stated that studies have found that fat, heredity, stress, poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking are some of the predisposing factors of Breast Cancer. She added that a lump in the breast, an inverted nipple and asymmetric breasts are some of the signs and symptoms of the disease. “Men can also develop Breast Cancer. Individuals of all races and backgrounds can be affected by Breast Cancer. Except hair and nails, all parts of the human body can be attacked by Cancer.”

Speaking about healthy lifestyles to limit one’s chances of getting the disease, Madam Salam advised that eating vegetables, fruits, exercising regularly, and drinking plenty of water help deter Breast Cancer and several other diseases.
Staff members shared their thoughts and concerns regarding Breast Cancer. The health awareness talk concluded with a self-examination session and further expert breast screening.

October is recognized globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
