NP (SL) Commemorates World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025

NP (Sierra Leone) Limited commemorated the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 29, 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote workplace safety and health among its staff and the wider public.

The commemoration activities began on April 28 with pre-event publicity. Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Officer Mr. Saffea T. Gbamanja along with Safety Officer, Mr. Stevens Koroma featured live on Epic Radio FM 99.3 to discuss the importance of workplace safety and NP’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards. On the event day, Mr. Gbamanja also appeared live on SLBC Television to further promote awareness around health and safety in the workplace.

On the day of the event, staff assembled at Shell, Personage Street, Kissy after which they marched to the Company’s Kissy Terminal.

At the Terminal, HSSE and Safety Officers addressed participants on the significance of safety, its impact on NP’s operations, and the Company’s unwavering commitment to upholding international safety standards. Formal statements were delivered by identified company representatives.

After the formal activities, the Communications and HSSE/Safety Teams embarked on further public sensitization efforts aimed at spreading key safety messages to a broader audience.

This year’s global theme focused on “Revolutionizing health and safety: the role of AI and digitalization at work,” highlighting the potential of artificial intelligence in enhancing workplace safety through hazard detection, automation of dangerous tasks, data-driven decisions, and fostering a culture of innovation and responsibility. NP used the occasion to emphasize how AI could support safety improvements in its operations.

The event sought to reaffirm NP’s commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, encourage staff to adopt a culture of safety, reduce work-related incidents, and create opportunities for management and staff to engage in meaningful discussions around workplace health and safety. Staff members were reminded to wear the official T-shirts provided for the event and to arrive on time.
