NP Hails Honest Pump Attendant

Honesty, according to the Britannica Dictionary, is the quality of being fair and truthful. It is said to be the portrayal of moral belief in a situation that would otherwise present difficulty to observe morality in. This virtue may sometimes appear impossible to uphold, especially in tough times when there is existing economic hardship. Most people may be tempted to keep what is rightfully not theirs in an instance where they have discovered a surplus payment, especially after a customer has left. This was not the case for Augustine Joel Kanu, a pump attendant at NP Bottom Mango, Wilberforce Station, who recently returned excess cash paid to him by a customer. Augustine, in his wisdom, rushed after the customer and returned the money.

In acknowledgement of this commendable conduct, NP (SL) Ltd. has recognised the honesty of the pump attendant by avowing him. The Company has promised to reward Augustine with an admirable prize, which will serve as motivation for other pump attendants. For going so far as reaching out to a customer who had unintentionally overpaid him for a fuel purchase, Augustine was applauded for honoring NP’s quest for excellence by upholding the Company’s values for professionalism in striving to achieve top-notch customer service delivery.

The satisfied customer, Mr. Osman Benk Sannoh, overwhelmed by the noble comportment, took to his social media page to applaud the young man for his integrity amidst the country’s economic crisis. In his Facebook post, Mr. Sankoh narrated his encounter at the station by commending Augustine’s uprightness even amid temptation. “A few weeks ago, I was in a hurry to get to work, and I was running out of gas. I stopped by, quickly dished out some freshly minted wads of 20 Leones notes, and asked him to pump four (4) liters, but in fact, what I gave him could have gotten me 8 liters. Once he was done, I left. I had just finished taking the roundabout when I saw Augustine frantically flagging my car to stop. I did. Then he explained that I gave him more than I requested. I was dumbfounded. I thanked him profusely, shook his hands, and I left.”

When interviewed about what was going through his mind that day, especially in this day and age when families go to bed hungry, Augustine revealed that due to his upbringing as a Christian, he could not hesitate to return the money to the customer. He quoted Proverbs 22 verse 6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Apart from upholding NP’s value for honesty and professionalism, personally, I believe in sincerity. That is why I am going to use this opportunity to encourage other NP pump attendants to continue maintaining honesty and integrity at our stations to maximise public trust in our business.”

Pump attendants serve as the face of NP, ensuring smooth operations at fuel stations and providing essential services to customers. Their responsibilities include accurately dispensing fuel, maintaining safety standards and assisting customers. Their honesty is crucial to maintaining the brand reputation of NP and ensuring customer satisfaction.

In any case, from top management down to pump attendants, NP values the honesty and dedication of its brand representatives by recognizing the pivotal role they play in delivering exceptional customer service in ensuring their continued commitment to excellent service. NP aims to foster a supportive work environment that encourages integrity and positive conduct in order to contribute to the long-term success of the Company.
