Human Rights Engages NP (SL) on Human Rights Violation, Shares Findings of a Monitoring Exercise Conducted on OMCs in the Country

Commencing a wave of strategic engagements with Oil Marketing Companies, Human Rights Commission Sierra Leone has engaged the management of NP SL on Human Rights findings.
The purpose of the engagement was to share findings of a monitoring exercise conducted by the Commission\’s Directorate of Business and Human Rights and Labour Relations in January this year in some fuel/gas stations in Freetown, where alleged human rights violations were documented.
Recommendations on how to mitigate such violations were put forward by the Commission and a collaboration on training of staff of the company on human rights in relation to business and employee relations were discussed.
Deputy Director and Head of Business and Human Rights Directorate, Abdulai Yollah Bangura said as institution created  by an Act of Parliament, it is the role of National Human Rights Institution (NHRI)  to look at human rights issues in a bid to improve the situation and not to present people in a poor light.
Chief Executive Officer NP (SL) Ambassador Kobi Walker applauded the Commissions\’ move in engaging OMCs in the Country and assured adoption of the findings presented in a bid to yield positive outcomes.
